PayPal Integration For Samsung Pay Might Be Coming Soon to Canada

Mobile phone users in Canada can use Samsung Pay, but a new feature could make the service even more useful in the near future.

The Korean tech giant just announced it has inked a deal with PayPal in order to allow users in the US to access and use their PayPal wallet and balance anywhere Samsung Pay is accepted. Customers will be able to use their PayPal account to pay for goods in-store and online, via almost every terminal that supports tapping or swiping.

What’s more, Samsung Pay will become available via Braintree Direct, thus allowing merchants – who will be able to integrate the new service via a few lines of code – to accept Samsung Pay payments.

At the moment we don’t know whether or when the option will be offered in Canada, but we’re keeping our finger crossed for Samsung to expand it availability soon.

Currently, Samsung Pay only supports VISA credit cards from CIBC. Samsung promised to add support for more credit card unions and bank partners, but we are yet to see this happen.

Samsung’s announcement comes only days after Apple revealed PayPal support it’s coming to its App Store, iTunes and Apple Music in Canada and Mexico. Also not so long ago, Google’s similar service – Android Pay – was updated to include PayPal integration as well. Android Pay was officially launched in Canada last month.
