Facebook Messenger to get ads on homescreen this year

Facebook is no stranger to ads, but the mobile experience is about to get a few more. After a limited test in Thailand and Australia, Facebook plans to roll out ads on the Messenger app homescreen to everyone by the end of 2017.

These ads will be the run-of-the-mill kind that you usually see on Facebook. The addition of ads will start slow and go from there. The company is open to feedback and says it may even remove ads if people hate them enough. But with a free service, ads are a given.

Hopefully the ads won’t be too disruptive when they launch in the future, so enjoy the ad-free homescreen while you can.
