Essential Phone will be released ‘in a few weeks’

Back in May when Andy Rubin officially unveiled the Essential Phone, he said the plan was to start shipping the phone in 30 days. Unfortunately, that window has already passed, but recently an Essential exec said the phone was expected to arrive “imminently.” However, with July coming to a close here soon, it looks like Essential needs a bit more time.

In a statement made via the Essential Twitter account, founder Andy Rubin says that the Essential Phone will be in owners’ hands “in a few weeks.” Rubin adds that the handset is going through the certification process and carrier testing, both in the United States and the international markets.

The Essential Phone features a 5.7-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of built-in storage, with a fingerprint reader on the back and a 3040mAh battery under the hood. There isn’t a 3.5mm headphone jack, but there is a USB-C port and Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Finally, a pair of 13MP cameras are set in the back of the phone, and there’s an 8MP front-facing camera as well.
