ZTE updating Axon 7 to Android 7.1.1

After updating its Axon 7 to Nougat last month, ZTE is back again to push another update to its flagship device.

ZTE today released Android 7.1.1 for the Axon 7. In addition to bumping the phone up to the latest official Android release, this update adds T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling support. That means that T-Mo customers with an Axon 7 should be able to send and receive calls and texts over Wi-Fi after updating.

This update also adds the February 2017 Android security patches, updated emojis, and Daydream VR optimizations. Rounding out the update are some miscellaneous performance improvements and bug fixes.

Overall this looks like a pretty significant update for the ZTE Axon 7. We recently learned that there aren’t a ton of Android devices on 7.1, so it’s great to see another one get that update, especially considering that it’s not a Nexus or Pixel phone. If you’ve got an Axon 7, you can manually check for this update right now by going into your Settings app and tapping System Update.
