When the Galaxy Note 7 launched, it was equipped with a specialized folder that would allow owners to put images, apps, and other items into it, securing it away from the rest of the device. Unfortunately, the app was short-lived for obvious reasons, but now Samsung is bringing it back.
Samsung has just announced that the Secure Folder app is now in the Galaxy Apps store for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. To be able to access it, your S7 or S7 edge needs to be running Android 7.0 Nougat.
The Secure Folder app will allow you to put in apps, documents, images, and video into a secured folder. You can name it if whatever your want,and then secure it with a PIN, a password, or a fingerprint. Secure Folder takes advantage of Samsung KNOX, the company’s enterprise-grade security protocol. The information stored in that folder is sandboxed away from the rest of the device’s information.
You can simply slide the content you want to secure into the folder, or can select the proprietary “Move to Secure Folder” in stock TouchWiz apps. You’ll need to log into your Samsung Account as well, which also offers cloud storage backups. Recovering he folder requires the original Samsung account holder.
The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are the only devices able to run Secure Folder, but Samsung says it will expand to more devices soon.
