Will Samsung ‘Brick’ the Galaxy Note 7 in Canada Like the USA?

We already told you that Samsung is working with carriers in Canada to make the Note7 useless. Starting December 12, we expect the fiery tablet to lose all Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionality. Then on December 15, the device will be disconnected from the carrier networks in the country.

But things will get even gloomier in the US. Samsung just confirmed it will start rolling out an update for the Galaxy Note7 in the US which will prevent the device from charging at all. Samsung wants to render the phablet completely useless, so people who are still holding on it will have no choice but to return it.

In its statement, Samsung says 93% of the potentially dangerous handsets have been returned, but the Korean tech giant wants to make sure all 100% devices will be accounted for.

Anyway, Samsung doesn’t say anything about devices in other markets, so we can speculate this measure could be extended towards Canada in the upcoming few weeks. We’ll update you if any information becomes available.

Samsung doesn’t mention if the update will be imposed upon Galaxy Note7 owners. If this will not be the case, we can’t help but wonder if some users will by-pass installing the update and keep using the device as a camera or as a storage device.
