Koushik Dutta, the developer behind the popular AllCast app, has released a new video showing mirroring capability between his Android device and Amazon’s Fire TV set-top box. The work follows up on his efforts to get the AllCast app to successfully cast content to Fire TV, a chore he disposed of quite quickly. In his latest video, he shows the screen being mirrored to Fire TV.
In his post, he also provides a quick comparison of mirroring performance between Apple TV, Fire TV and Chromecast. He indicates Fire TV and Apple TV are on par with each other, especially in terms of producing low latency, high quality video. Chromecast however uses some different technology, WebRTC, which is resulting in some “noticeable quality issues.” Some of that can be dealt with through patience as Chromecast will adjust the bitrate on the video portion after a couple minutes. However, Dutta thinks the audio stream may be get encoded for voice causing other audio to not be so good.
