There’s some good news today for Android fans that’ve had their eyes on the Oppo N1 CyanogenMod edition, as Oppo has finally revealed when it plans to make the limited device available for purchase. Oppo says that the N1 CyanogenMod edition will hit its online store next Tuesday, Dec. 24. The company has previously said that the device will be priced similarly to its regular N1, which costs $599 for the 16GB model and $649 for the 32GB variant. In addition to the phone itself, the CyanogenMod N1 comes with special packaging, some stickers and a case featuring Cid and Ollie, the mascots of CyanogenMod and Oppo.
But wait, there’s more good news where that came from! CyanogenMod announced today that its special N1 has officially passed Google’s Android Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) and Compatibility Definition Document (CDD), giving it official access to Google apps like the Play Store. The N1 is the first CyanogenMod device to get Google’s CTS and CDD stamps of approval, making it a big milestone for both the CyanogenMod N1 as well as the Cyanogen Inc. team, especially if the company aspires to gain traction in the mobile market and continue to participate in hardware partnerships.
The CyanogenMod-powered N1 features the same specs as the model that launched earlier this month, including a 5.9-inch 1080p display and 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor. The difference between the two models is in the software, as the special CyanogenMod model comes preloaded with CyanogenMod 10.2, while the normal N1 comes packing Android 4.2 beneath Oppo’s custom Color OS user interface. It’s worth noting that Oppo has worked to make it fairly easy to load CyanogenMod onto the regular N1 using its stock recovery, but with extra goodies like a case and stickers as well as the fact that it’s a “limited edition” product, I’m betting that there are still quite a few folks that are patiently waiting for the CyanogenMod N1′s arrival.
