It’s no secret that Blackberry is struggling big-time, especially when it comes to BB10 and its smartphone hardware. Despite these struggles, there is one bright spot for the company: Blackberry Messenger has managed to gain a lot of attention and many new users since debuting on Android and iOS.
Hoping to further ride this wave of success, Blackberry has now officially announced that they are partnering up with LG to include Blackberry Messenger pre-loaded on select LG handsets starting with the G Pro Lite.
Of course the news really isn’t that much of a surprise considering, especially since Blackberry had just announced last month that they were planning to work with several major Android OEMs to pre-load BBM onto select handsets in emerging markets throughout Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
For those wondering whether the LG BBM app will be any different from what’s available for free from Google Play, the answer appears to be no. Basically the idea here is that pre-loading it doesn’t change their Google Play plans, instead it means more folks will give the app a try when they see it’s already on their handset.
It’s still uncertain what Blackberry’s future holds, and whether or not spinning off key apps like BBM over to other platforms will be enough to plug up the holes in Blackberry’s sinking ship. Still, we have to admit that BBM has gotten a fair amount of attention and positive praise — even if the app is far from perfect.
