Samsung has been very successful at providing multiple size options in the smartphone market, and it looks that the Korean giant is marching on the same strategy in its tablet business.
Rumors emerged in the last weeks about four new Samsung tablets due in the first quarter of 2014, and now we have some concrete information on them, courtesy of Sam Mobile. The report is based on information from an “insider”, corroborating a recent story from Korean media.
If the report is accurate, Samsung will introduce four new tablets in the first weeks of 2014:
- Galaxy Note Pro
- Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1
- Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4
- Galaxy Tab 3 Lite
As the name suggests, the Note Pro will be a stylus-equipped tablet with a 12.2-inch display focused on productivity. Rumors of a 12-inch tablet have been periodically surfacing throughout 2012, so the arrival of the Note Pro 12.2 would not be a surprise. According to Korean website Moveplayer , the Note Pro bears the SM-P900 codename and features specs that are similar to the Note 10.1 2014, with the biggest differences being the huge 9500 mAh battery and the presence of Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
Moveplayer created the render at the top of this post that shows the difference in size between the Note Pro and the Note 10.1. The Pro is reportedly going to be quite heavy at 750 grams, but that’s to be expected with the large display and laptop-like battery capacity.
The Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 (SM-T520/T525) and 8.4 (SM-T320/T325) will feature 16GB of storage capacity and LTE connectivity. Like the Note Pro, the two devices will be available in black and white by the end of February, claims Sam Mobile, meaning there’s a good chance we’ll see them at CES or MWC. We can speculate that these Tab Pros may be the rumored AMOLED tablets that Samsung is planning for 2014, though there’s no evidence to support this theory.
Finally, the Tab 3 Lite is expected to launch as soon as the second week of January with a tempting price of €100 or $135. Expect lower end specs and 3G connectivity instead of LTE.
While Sam Mobile has a good track record when it comes to these insider reports, don’t take this one for granted just yet. With that said, would you be interested in a massive 12.2-inch Note Pro? Could it be good enough to replace a laptop?
