NVIDIA SHIELD updated to bring Android 4.3, plenty of additional enhancements

NVIDIA’s SHIELD handheld gaming console has received a software update to bring a slew of fixes and new features. Behind the scenes, SHIELD has been bumped up to Android 4.3. But first and foremost, the device now has access to support thousands of additional Android games. That was one of the issues plaguing SHIELD –lack of choice. Also, GameStream has left the beta phase. Hit the break for the rundown of the update.

Gamepad Mapper is another new feature that allows you to draw gestures on the screen to replace physical controls. These controls can be shared and edited between profiles. And a player can upload their controls to the cloud for mass consumption.

Console Mode restarts SHIELD upon connecting to an HDMI cable and outputting a 1080p resolution to your display. Previously SHIELD could only get up to its own 720p resolution. A smaller addition, but still valuable, for the update adds support for putting games on a microSD card. Now users can store games onto a microSD card that is 32GB or smaller (support for 64GB does not exist at the moment).
