Slack app gets Google Smart Lock support in latest beta

If memory serves, being forced to sign into Slack for all eternity is one of the circles of Hell in Dante's Inferno. Even if that's a completely fabricated statement (which it is), it drives home the point of how annoying Slack sign-ins can be. Now, it's slightly less terrible on Android thanks to Smart Lock support.

Previously, Slack would just ask you to enter your room ID, followed by your credentials. Remembering multiple Slack room names in addition to the logins can get annoying, and the Slack "Magic Link" method never worked very well. Smart Lock is an optional way for developers to automate sign-ins using the passwords you've saved in Google.

PUBG Mobile v0.11.0 update adds Resident Evil 2 zombies in a new crossover event

Capcom recently released a modern remake of Resident Evil 2 on consoles and PC that's been overwhelmingly received as a success, so in an effort to capitalize on the game's popularity PUBG Mobile just launched an update (v0.11.0) that crosses over with the world of RE2. Zombies and bosses from the RE2 universe will spawn on the Erangel map in a new limited event mode titled Zombie: Survive Till Dawn.

Google plans for gaming conference news stoke streaming-service fires

Several news outlets are reporting receiving invitations from Google for an announcement set to take place at the 2019 GDC (Game Developer Conference) next month. Details included in the invitation itself are sparse, apparently stating only that "all will be revealed" at a keynote during the conference on March 19th at 10AM PT, 1PM ET. This effective announcement of an upcoming announcement has renewed speculation surrounding Google's potential entry into the game-streaming market.

Samsung updates Galaxy Apps with OneUI, changes name to Galaxy Store

Samsung is in the midst of a big software redesign on its Android devices. Little by little, the company's phones are getting the Pie update, and with that comes OneUI. It's also rolling out new official apps to go with it, like the latest update to Galaxy Apps. Oops, that's "Galaxy Store" now.

The newly renamed Galaxy Store is Samsung' storefront for apps and games, the most prominent of which is Fortnite.

Opera for Android version 50 introduces a more publisher-friendly ad blocker, faster scrolling, and PiP [APK Download]

For its latest big Android update, Opera is including a key new feature that makes it easier to whitelist websites from the in-built ad blocker. Other enhancements include the addition of Picture-in-Picture video and a new fast-scrolling handle.

YouTube Music finally comes to Android Auto [APK Download]

There's probably no other feature that's more often cited as missing from YouTube Music than Android Auto support. Sure, you can manually start and control the app on your phone while it's connected to the car and get music, but this is clearly not what people are asking for. Hints about in-car support were added to the apk a few months ago, but that promise has finally come through. As Chrome Story points out, this functionality is already live in the Chrome Canary channel. There's no user-visible option for creating these links yet, but opening the custom URLs

You're probably familiar with anchors — the hashtags on the end of links that take you to a specific part of the link (like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)#History). Anchors are handy, but the page has to provide those anchors.

Monument Valley creator ustwo is working on two new games

Levels is a new video series from Red Bull that dives into the world of indie gaming. The latest episode reveals that ustwo, the creators of Monument Valley, is currently working on two new games for mobile. Both titles are described as departures from the Monument Valley franchise.

Season one episode five of Red bull's Levels allows an art director and project lead from ustwo to talk about two new upcoming games from the renowned studio. It would appear that one of these new titles will be designed to bring mobile gaming to the "next level" by focusing on narrative and interpersonal relationships, and the second game is inspired by real life to better connect with players and create an experience that feels true.
