In late April, OnePlus officially introduced the company’s first smartphone, the One. It’s a device that’s packed with plenty of noteworthy features and a price tag that’s quite approachable. After OnePlus tried different ways of releasing the One out into the world, eventually a pre-order system was put in place, and while it hasn’t always gone smoothly over the course of the last few months, sales for the One have been quite good.
According to a report published by Forbes, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei confirmed that sales for the One have surpassed 500,000 units. While that’s a big milestone for the company that has reportedly only used $300 for its marketing budget, the stretch goal by the end of 2014 is one million, which Pei notes should be possible.
Interestingly, Pie shed some light on the revenue generation from the One, saying that each device sale only nets the company a single-figure dollar amount. Ultimately, phone sales isn’t where the company plans on raking in the cash, though, as OnePlus will apparently be focusing more on accessories sales, as well as monetization through building their own software and services.
The first pre-order event for the OnePlus One didn’t go over so well, and the company recently announced that another event will be taking place on November 17. Do you plan on picking up a One if you haven’t already?
