Rumors about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 including a fingerprint scanner have been flying around the internet for a while now, but those rumors were yet to be confirmed. Until now that is! Recently insiders at Samsung confirmed the news, and they even explained how it works!

A lot of the recent rumors suggested that the scanner would be built in to the display, but actually it will be implemented in the home button. We also know that Samsung will in fact be sticking to hardware buttons for the device. The fingerprint scanner will be work in a swipe manner, meaning that you will need to swipe your entire fingerprint in order for it to work properly. The scanner will also be sensitive to moisture, so users will have to maker sure that their hands are dry before they try and use the scanner.

The operating system will also extensively use fingerprint scanning. Users will be able to register up to 8 fingerprints, and each fingerprint can have a different function on the phone. One of those fingerprints must be used to unlock the device. Not only that but Samsung will now allow users to be able to hide personal apps, widgets, and files, only accessible via the users fingerprint.

Finally, on the Galaxy S5, when users scan their fingerprint the display of the device will show an image of your fingerprint in real time.
