Honor announces Oreo updates for 7X, 8, 8 Pro, 9, and V9 at a minumum

The brand new Honor 7X is a solidly specced out budget phone, but it launched with Android Nougat and an older build of EMUI 5.1 in tow. This is in contrast to the Huawei Mate 10 Pro which launched with Oreo and EMUI 8.0. Fortunately, this shouldn’t be the case for long.

The president of Honor George Zhao announced that the Honor 7X, Honor 8, Honor 8 Pro, Honor 9, and Honor V9 will all be getting the Oreo update. This isn’t the definite list of course, as more devices may also get an update. We hope that the still fairly young Honor 6X won’t be left out, because a single major update wouldn’t be a good look for the Honor brand.

Zhao also stresses that Huawei and the Honor sub-brand should not be directly compared as they are very different despite the hardware similarities. They serve entirely different markets.

We look forward to seeing the Oreo update, hopefully without much delay. Software support is still a weak point for Android as a whole and Honor should definitely start pushing harder with security patches and major upgrades.
